Guidelines

If you've perused my music page, you'll know that I'm a versatile artist, but of course, I am not an expert in every genre of music, and there are genres that I specialize in more than others.  Please take this into consideration.  That said, I'm always willing to give things a try, so I won't always turn down a commission request, even if it's a genre or style I'm not familiar with.  It is up to you whether you are okay with that or not.

I am willing to do both original work and remix/arrangement work.  However, if you're seeking a remix/arrangement, I will not be responsible for issues that may arise with original rights holders.  Make sure you're aware of this before inquiring about remixes/arrangements.  Additionally, I will not be responsible for any license acquisition of any kind, should you desire to pursue online distribution.

You may use commissioned music for only the intended purpose of the commission, unless specified otherwise.  You will not receive commercial rights to the music.  In order to acquire full ownership of commissioned music, the cost of the commission will increase significantly.  If this is something you are seeking, we can discuss that separately.

If you are commissioning me for a long-term project, we'll discuss ownership rights separately.

When discussing what you are looking for in a song, please provide as much information as possible.  A description of the project in question, music references, etc., all help.  If what you are looking for is more specific (i.e. music for a video or animation), it would be very helpful to have a script, storyboards, animatics, etc.

I reserve the right to decline offers if:

  • I feel I cannot deliver a quality product.

  • I feel not enough information has been provided.

  • I am uncomfortable with the ultimate use of the product.

For a better idea of the kinds of sounds I do best, please peruse through some of my music.

Pricing

Individual Commissions (One track/looping BGM):

  • Short jingles 30 seconds maximum in length start at $50 USD.

  • Tracks 1 minute in length will start at $100 USD.  Beyond the 1-minute mark, an additional fee of $85 USD per minute will be charged.  For example, if a finished track is 2 minutes and 30 seconds long, the charge would be $100 (1 minute base price) + $127.5 ($85 x 1.5 minutes) = $227.5 USD.  (This doesn't factor in any additional fees.)

    • For looping tracks, I'll charge based on when the track loops.  If a finished track is 2 minutes and 30 seconds long, but loops at 1 minute and 15 seconds, the charge will be $100 (1 minute base price) + $21.25 ($85 x 0.25 minutes) = $121.25 USD.  (This doesn't factor in any additional fees.)

    • Tracks that go beyond 5 minutes in length will be charged at a higher rate, which can be determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • If a track requires turnaround within 2 weeks, an additional rush fee of at least 25% will be applied to the final fee.  This percentage may scale based on the urgency of turnaround.

  • Rates are not concrete.  Besides length, factors that influence the rate include, but are not limited to: instrumentation, difficulty of transcription, genre familiarity, degree of simplicity/complexity, and deadline.  However, what I have listed above should be generally consistent.

Long-Term Commissions (Game scoring, film scoring, etc.):

  • If you are looking to have me create a batch of tracks over the course of a development cycle, please contact me with specifics.

  • Check the Individual Commissions section above for an approximation of what I may charge per track.

Additional Info

Revisions & Restarting:

  • This is a collaborative process, and I understand if there comes a point during a commission where you are unhappy with the direction of a track.  However, I have to limit the number of times a track needs revising or restarting.

    • I will allow 1 significant revision free of charge.  Small notes and feedback on a WIP are not considered significant revisions.  Revisions after that will cost $40 per revision.

    • Complete restarts of commissions are very time-consuming, and will cost $90 per restart.  To avoid this, it is on you to be as clear as possible with what you want.

Deadlines:

  • Turnaround will be within 1 month of starting a commission, unless otherwise stated.

Payment

At least 50% of the track's base price must be paid prior to starting a commission.  The final product will only be delivered upon receiving full payment.  The final quote will factor in conversion/processing fees.

I will only accept payment through PayPal.  Prices are in USD.  If you choose to commission me, please send your PayPal address.  Final payments are nonrefundable.

I will provide work-in-progress versions of a track as I am working on it.  These will come as low-quality MP3 files.  The final product will come as a lossless WAV file, and a high-quality 320kbps MP3 file may be requested.

Terms and Conditions

You must credit me as "Monochrome" or "Monochrome Media" (I may specify which I prefer), and include links to my YouTube channel and Twitter (you can find these at the top-right of this website).  If applicable, you may also tag my YouTube channel in a YouTube video upload.  If you share my work on social media, be sure to tag me (check Links to find all my socials).

I will retain all rights to original compositions and their associated masters.  I may release finished tracks on my socials/streaming services at a later date.  You are commissioning me for an exclusive license to use the track for an agreed-upon purpose.  If you wish to acquire the rights to the composition and master, we can discuss that individually - be aware that this will carry a large fee.

If I'm unable to complete a commission by a provided deadline or within a month of beginning the commission, I will contact you regarding such and explain the reason.  In the event this happens, you may request a full refund of any payments made up to that point.

I will not be held responsible for how the final product is used, or what may occur as a result of how it is used.  This applies particularly to arrangements, if they are copyright claimed or taken down.  By commissioning me, you are paying for the service, not the product.

If you found my services to be helpful, I would appreciate if you recommended me to anybody who needs them!
